MARY’S ALL ALONE
NARRATIVE SHORT
SYNOPSIS
On the eve of her younger cousin’s wedding, Mary, a fourth-year college student, impulsively lies to her mother and claims she has a date. Panicked and embarrassed by the expectation she’s created, Mary’s roommates and best friends rally around her, dragging her out to a college party with the goal of finding someone—anyone—to fill the role.
What follows is a night of awkward flirtation, false starts, and steadily increasing intoxication as Mary cycles through potential suitors, each interaction more exhausting than the last. Just as the night seems to collapse under the weight of her own pressure and insecurity, Mary finds herself alone on a bathroom floor with Isaac—the party’s infamously “douchey” host, who turns out to be far kinder and more self-aware than his reputation suggests.
As the two connect in an unexpectedly honest moment, Mary’s All Alone reveals itself to be less about romance and more about the quiet vulnerability of early adulthood. At its heart, the film is a story about college friendships, chosen family, and the people who stay beside you when the night doesn’t go as planned.
